Videoblogs Get Out the Votes?

rasiej.jpg

Videoblogs seem to be the hot new thing for politicians.

Senator John Edwards launched his videoblog on the heels of his successful Podcast and promised he would respond to video questions sent in by viewers.

Boston City Councillor, John Tobin, has been videoblogging since early 2005. His platform: Free Public WiFi!

Another proponent of municipal WiFi, Andrew Rasiej (pronounced Ra-Shay), is running for Public Advocate in New York City. His videoblog certainly made an impression on Mary Hodder, who writes on Napsterization:

He's very cute there with that little slightly embarrassed smile, should get lots of votes! He's on his way to a wifi hearing, where he testifies that wifi in NYC is key to keeping NYC 1st in the world.

YES! I want universal wifi. It's like a water. Which should be a municipal utility.

Also, the low res quality of the video gives it that "60's -- we're gonna change the world!" feel.. like we're watching JFK or something!

I love this. Every candidate should have a "man on the street" vlog.

JD Lasica reports that OurMedia now supports instant uploads to the Internet Archive.

Says Lasica:

Our friends at the Internet Archive have reconfigured their servers to accommodate the flood of media items that are pouring in from our members. As a result, you should be able to see your videos, audio files, and photos on Ourmedia within minutes rather than hours or days.

On the Broken Banks of Brooklyn

A few weeks ago, Yury Gitman and I visited these piers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Yury shot this video on his little Xacti MPEG-4 camera.

Soon after we shot this it began to rain incredibly hard. We ended up getting drenched, and then later went to Yury's girlfriend, Olia's house in Williamsburg to eat Sushi. On our way to Olia's, it stopped raining and we witnessed the most incredible rainbow I've ever seen.

Adam Quirk captured that very same rainbow in Hoboken, New Jersey -- looking at Manhattan from the opposite side in this videoblog entry.

Screencasts: Take a Closer Look With OS X Zooming

universal_access.jpg

Gabe and Gabe, a dynamic duo in Amsterdam, teach us a great tip for creating better screencasts on Mac OS X:

Go to Universal Access in your System Preferences and enable the zooming feature. This will allow you to zoom your screen in/out using keyboard commands. The effect makes a great combo with Snapz Pro X for capturing videos of your computer screen.
