Bikes Against Bush update
Jim Dwyer's article, City Police Spied Broadly Before G.O.P. Convention, in today's Sunday edition of the New York Times confirms a long-held suspicion -- Bikes Against Bush was under surveillance by law enforcement.
I'm not sure how to react at the moment, and will try to compose a more thoughtful response soon.
For those who haven't seen the videos, here is the raw, on-the-street footage of the arrest, and here is the version that aired on MSNBC's Hardball.
Here is the original prototype video of Bikes Against Bush.

Josh, Just saw your video on rocketboom regarding your arrest and surveillance by the NYPD.
Thats entirely ridiculous what they did to you.
I've been corresponding with Free Speech prisoner Josh Wolf too, which has an eerie 'big brother' is watching component as well.
All the best,
Kristian
ps. hope to see you or andrew at one of the web video 2.0 meetups.

I'm absolutely horrified. I live way down south, and had followed your story, was charmed by the bike, and then poof, nothing. No new news.
What can anyone do to help the situation, this country is so off-balance right now. I had no idea this had happened to you, I'm throwing money at Obama, and I will sign any petition you do, put me on some sort of list... anything to help this country get its act together. Thanks for doing the Rocketboom story, i might never have known, we don't get much New York news down here!

Hey Joshua
Re the "raw" video of your arrest: Reporters seem so naive when they're yelling at the cops about their own rights being trampled. What's really depressing is how quickly their indignation fades, along with the accompanying realization that we're living in a police state, once the assignment is completed and they've moved on to the next story (in this case, on Saturday night pub-crawling--it's true, I checked--see http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5452167/). That the reporter was Ronnie Regan makes it all the more poignant.
